About Territories
Franchise Systems Ai (FS Ai) splits geographic territory management into two places: state-level compliance and Deal Zones.
State Compliance
You manage state filing status and FDDs under Sales → Compliance.
The Compliance page has three tabs:
- States: the states where your brand operates or plans to operate, with active/inactive status and registration requirements
- FDDs: your Franchise Disclosure Documents, which states each one is registered in, and any issues that need attention
- Deadlines: upcoming filing and renewal deadlines
A "Connect legal team" button in the top right of the Compliance page opens a request to Franchise Systems Ai's legal partners. You may also see a dismissible banner above the page offering the same connection.
If your brand's compliance is handled by an outside legal team instead of managed in-platform, the FDDs tab is replaced by a Legal tab, a "Managed by" badge appears next to the page title, and the "Connect legal team" button and banner don't show, since you already have a legal team connected.
State Management
The States tab lists the states where your brand operates or plans to operate, with an interactive map beside the list.
Each state record shows:
- Status: Active or Inactive
- Registration status: Registered, Filed, Filing Only, Registration Required, Expired, or No Registration
- FDD count: how many FDDs are registered in that state
Select where you're actively franchising by checking the states where you sell franchises, then use Set Status to mark them Actively Franchising.

Filtering only narrows the list. The map always shows full coverage.
Use the Search States box to find a state by name, or the filter row above the list to narrow further:
- Country: Canada, United States, or US Territories
- Sort: Active first, Name A-Z, Expiry soonest, or Needs attention
- Franchising status: All states, Franchising, or Not franchising
- Registration status filter: any combination of the six statuses above
- FDD coverage: Any FDD, Has FDD, or No FDD
States that need attention, the ones the Needs attention sort brings to the top, are highlighted in orange on the map with a warning marker. Hover the marker for details.
Bulk Operations
You can manage multiple states at once:
- Bulk Assign FDD: select multiple states and assign the same FDD document to all of them
- Bulk Status Update: toggle active status across multiple states simultaneously
Assigning FDDs to States
- Go to Sales → Compliance and select the FDDs tab.
- Upload an FDD, or open an existing one from Active FDDs.
- Assign it to the states you want to update.
- Confirm the assignment.
FDDs Tab
The FDDs tab lists your active FDDs. Each FDD shows how many states it's registered in, when it was last updated, and a status badge.
Expand an FDD to see the states registered to it, each with the same status badges used on the States tab.
Any states or FDDs that need attention show at the top of the tab, and the total also appears as an orange chip next to the page title.
Deadlines Tab
The Deadlines tab collects every state's registration expiration and FDD renewal date into a single list, so you can see what's coming due without opening each state one at a time.
Deadlines are grouped by urgency first, then by month:
- Overdue: anything past its date, always shown first
- Every other deadline falls under its due month, soonest month first

Each row shows the state, whether it's a Registration expires or FDD renewal due deadline, the due date, and a badge counting down the days left.
A deadline due within 30 days gets an orange badge; anything overdue gets a red one. Click any row to open that state's record.
A deadline only appears once you've set a registration expiration or FDD renewal date for that state. Until then, the tab reads "No deadlines yet."

If your brand's compliance is handled by an outside legal team, the tab reads "Handled for you" instead, since your legal partner tracks these dates for you. It also adds a Recent activity list below the deadlines showing your legal team's filing updates, newest first.
Deal Zones
Deal Zones let you define geographic zones and control how deals are distributed across your franchise territory. You manage them from Sales → Pipeline, on the Territories tab.
This tab is available on full-plan brands. If your selected brands are all on the lite plan, the tab doesn't appear.
Zone List
The left panel lists your deal zones. Each zone shows:
- Brand: which brand the zone belongs to
- State flags: the state(s) the zone covers (zones can span multiple states)
- Zone name: the label you gave the zone
- Assigned entity: the business entity responsible for that zone, or "Unassigned" if none is set
- Deal count: displayed as X/Y, where X is the number of deals currently used and Y is the total deal capacity for that zone
Zones follow whichever brands you have selected at the top of the Pipeline page, so selecting multiple brands lists zones from all of them together.
You can search zones by name and use the filter icon to narrow the list. The Select All checkbox lets you select multiple zones for bulk actions.
Map View
The right panel shows an interactive map of the United States. Deal zones are displayed as highlighted regions on the map, giving you a visual overview of your geographic coverage and any gaps.
Creating a Deal Zone
Click Draw Deal Zone in the top right to create a new zone. Choose which brand the zone belongs to, define its geographic boundaries, assign it to a business entity, and set its deal capacity.
